Feast! Local Foods Network Internal Enhancement - Job ID 323197
The Feast Local Food Network (Network) works to unite regional resources to grow robust local food and farm businesses in southern MN, thereby increasing the vibrancy of our communities. A graduate research assistant will work with the Network on this project by assisting in the creation of a systematic approach to program evaluation surveys to improve and formalize key functions, such as data collection across programs and communications with stakeholders, such as sponsors and food buyers, including renewed outreach and engagement.
Central Minnesota Meat Processing Infrastructure and Regional Branding Project - Job ID 323202
A graduate research assistant is needed to conduct site visits with the project team to develop a project scope, literature review and analyses, identify business structure assessment in collaboration with the lead contractor for a feasibility study for a future mobile unit and/or a brick and mortar processing facility to meet continued demand for source-identified meat products. Preferred: Background or pursuing a degree in sustainable agriculture or agricultural sciences, or related field; Knowledgeable in business and finance, feasibility study and business planning research, analyses and processes.
Paved Trail Economic Impact Assessment - Job ID 323203
A research assistant is needed to conduct data collection and analysis on ARDC’s Paved Trail Economic Impact Assessment project. Through this project, systematic electronic counters will be deployed to conduct user counts on paved trails in northeastern Minnesota. A large scale (3000 users) trail user survey will be conducted simultaneously to gather data regarding user habits and their impacts on the economy Preferred: Background or pursuing a degree in urban planning, Geography, GIS, community development, or related field; Knowledge of ArcGIS also desirable but not required.
Rural Farmers Market Impact Study - Job ID 323204
A graduate research assistant is needed to design and carry out a study to demonstrate how local farmers markets contribute to local economies, strengthen local food systems and contribute to community resiliency. In conjunction with Iron Range Partnership for Sustainability staff and market managers, the student will design the study including data collection, data analysis, and interpretation of results. Preferred: Background or pursuing a degree in sociology, marketing, community development or related field; Knowledgeable in local food systems, rural agriculture, community vitality, economic multipliers.
Specialty Grains in MN: Assessing the Feasibility of a Local Supply Chain - Job ID 323193
A graduate student is needed to help better understand what barriers exist and what solutions might work to connect farmers willing to grow specialty grains with entrepreneurs who want to use local, sustainably grown speciality grains (buckwheat, kernza, oats, etc.) in their food products. The student will conduct a literature review and web search of initiatives focused on developing supply chains for specialty grain and work with Renewing the Countryside Advisory Team to develop a plan to identify and interview stakeholders including key farmers, processors, aggregators, entrepreneurs, scientists and others who are involved in specialty grains sourcing.
