The mission of the Bureau of Immunization is to protect the health of all New Yorkers through the prevention and control of Vaccine Preventable Diseases. The Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention (PHBP) Unit is responsible for conducting surveillance for hepatitis B infected pregnant women, and providing case management to help prevent the transmission of hepatitis B from these women to their newborns and contacts, including other children in the household. Approximately, 1200 hepatitis B infected pregnant or post-partum women are identified in New York City each year.
The PHBP Unit is currently seeking volunteer interns who are pursuing a degree in Public Health particularly with concentrations in Public Health Nursing, Community Health and Health Education. The internship is unpaid, but could be used for education credit. Training will be provided.
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by twelve semester credits in health education, or in health, social or biological sciences; or
Start dates are flexible
Duration: approximately 240 hours total
Weekly Time Commitment: 7-35 hours/week
When: During office hours (Monday – Friday; 8am-6pm)
