The Minnesota Public Health Association (MPHA) Policy and Advocacy Committee seeks a Graduate student who has interest in health policy and advocacy, takes initiative, and is an independent worker. Good basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office software and Internet research is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and good organizational skills are also required. MPHA membership required (can obtain at start of internship).
The intern will support the co-chairs of the Policy and Advocacy Committee in carrying out the roles of the committee. Duties comprise: researching public health policy issues (e.g., gun violence prevention); writing, organizing, and formatting MPHA documents (e.g., reports, resolutions, issue briefs, handbook(s)); assisting in event planning (e.g., lobby days, educational sessions); and monitoring and tracking health policies and proposed legislation and sending action alerts to MPHA membership. Job duties will also include attending monthly Policy and Advocacy Committee meetings, and providing administrative support (e.g., taking minutes, sending out agendas/minutes).
Ends: May 31, 2019 (could be extended if funding allows)
Work Schedule: Flexible hours/days, about 15-20 hours per month.
