About the position

NHH in Bergen, Norway, invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor of Business Economics with specialization in Applied Statistics or Econometrics at the Department of Business and Management Science. The Department delivers teaching and supervision in NHH’s programs at the bachelor, master and PhD levels, as well as executive programs.

The Department has high ambitions in terms of research and offers a stimulating work environment. The main activities are organized in six broad research areas: i) Incentives, Contracts and Firm Behavior, ii) Investments, Insurance and Household Finance, iii) Business Taxation, iv) Energy Markets, Resource Management and Sustainability v) Shipping, Logistics and Operations Management, and vi) Data Science and Analytics. The Department is multi-disciplinary and the research covers both empirical and theoretical inquiries.

The Department need to strengthen its capacity in Applied Statistics and Econometrics. The position will be associated with the research area Data Science and Analytics, but additional experience within one or more of the other research areas at the department will be an advantage.

The position is up to four years duration and provides an opportunity to qualify for a permanent position as Associate Professor or Full Professor.
It involves teaching on average one course per year as well as some graduate supervision.

The Department is responsible for the statistics courses in NHH’s Bachelor Program and is also the main contributor to a master profile in Business Analytics. A successful candidate should be able to deliver high quality teaching in introductory courses for large groups of students.
The teaching language in the Bachelor Program is Norwegian. Proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is therefore required.

Applicants should hold, or be close to completing, a PhD in statistics that is relevant to business research, or a PhD in a business school discipline with emphasis on empirical analysis. Applicants should also demonstrate a strong potential for high quality research.

In the assessment of applicants, international experience and qualifications will be emphasized. In case of equivalent qualifications, female applicants will be given preference.

NHH offers

The salary will be negotiable within the State Salary Scale for Junior Positions. NHH offers a favorable arrangement with membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, research funds for traveling and conference participation, and a bonus system for publication in top international journals. External research grants and teaching in executive programs may also offer opportunities for supplementing the base
salary.

In Norway, health care, schools and most other public services are free. The city of Bergen has a mild and coastal climate and offers rich opportunities for culture and outdoor activities - as well as a family-friendly environment (explore visitnorway.com).
