This position is for a research associate for a VA Coop study entitled, "Pulmonary Health and Deployment to Southwest Asia and Afghanistan". Military personnel deployed to Iraq, Kuwait and Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), and Operation New Dawn (OND) were exposed to high levels of airborne particulate matter (PM), including burn pits. The overall study aim is to assess the association of exposures during land-based deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq, and neighboring regions with a current assessment of pulmonary health among a study cohort of 4,500 Veterans. At the Minneapolis VAMC, 450 Veterans have been identified and will be recruited to participate in this study that consists of a single visit that includes questionnaires and pulmonary function testing. The study will last 3 years with a significant chance of renewal. This is for a full time position with full benefits. Responsibilities will include: subject recruitment, run study visit including data entry into Redcap database, and related IRB reporting.
