About CTP Social Scientists
Social Scientists at CTP apply knowledge of behavioral and social science to analyze public health issues, develop policies or programs, and review tobacco products, including their labeling and advertising. They design and develop research on tobacco product perceptions, understanding, beliefs, and intentions – including tobacco product labeling, advertising, marketing, and health warnings – and how communication affects consumer comprehension, judgment, knowledge, and likelihood to use tobacco products.
A degree in behavioral or social science or a related discipline is required. In addition, a background in tobacco products, population health, or regulatory science is strongly desired. Experience performing social science research and related scientific activities; assisting in the design, development, and review of research on issues related to consumer products, such as tobacco, including the labeling, advertising, and marketing of product, health warning, or education campaigns is preferred.
Staff Fellow Appointments
In addition to hiring Social Scientists for Permanent – Career-Conditional positions, CTP also hires Social Scientists for Staff Fellow positions. These positions are appointed in up to five-year increments and can be renewed for varying periods not to exceed 5 years for each extension. Candidates must possess at minimum a doctorallevel degree from an accredited institution of higher learning or other research doctoral-degree widely recognized in U.S. academia as equivalent to a Ph.D. A lower level of education may be considered depending on the needs of the program.
