DESCRIPTION: Don’t Waste Durham (dontwastedurham.org) is a non-profit organization that works to reduce the amount of trash produced by our community – by preventing it in the first place! One of Don’t Waste Durham’s programs is GreenToGo reusable takeout container service (DurhamGreenToGo.com).
We are seeking an experienced Qualitative Research Intern for our GreenToGo program. Our goal is to to improve the customer experience and increase usage so we can make the biggest environmental impact possible. We are looking for a student who wants to practice their qualitative research skills. The research will provide us valuable insights to make key decisions around our activities.
REQUIREMENTS: The ideal candidate has a strong interest in sustainability and making a positive environmental impact on the world. They have already taken a Qualitative Research Methods class, AND/OR previously participated in a qualitative research project and coordinated interviews and led analysis. This candidate is capable of working independently, is able to travel to Durham regularly. Bonus interests/expertise areas are design thinking, consumer psychology, and sociology.
HOURS: Up to 5 hours per week over the course of a semester. Work will start as soon as possible for the intern.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The intern will work closely with GreenToGo leadership team. Main responsibilities include recruiting people to be interviewed, scheduling interviews, assisting with interviews, creating audio recording and transcripts of the interview, conducting analysis, and making recommendations. GreenToGo will provide an interview guide.
COMPENSATION: This is an unpaid internship. However, we are happy to write letters of recommendation and complete internship documentation, and we will pass along as many perks from our member businesses and organizations that we possibly can! This internship is a growth opportunity with the potential to develop into more.
