Employer: AmeriCorps VISTA

Located in: Portland, Oregon

Degree Required: Bachelors

This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. For more information about the Oregon Health Authority VISTA Partnership Program, please visit: www.healthoregon.org/vista. The Oregon Pediatric Improvement Partnership (OPIP) is a statewide organization based in the Department of Pediatrics at Oregon Health & Sciences University (OHSU) www.oregon-pip.org. OPIP is meant to create a meaningful, long term collaboration of stakeholders invested in child health care quality, with the common purpose of improving the health of the children and youth of Oregon. OPIP is dedicated to building health and improving outcomes for children and youth by:1) Collaborating in quality measurement and improvement activities across the state; 2) Supporting evidence-guided quality activities; 3) Incorporating the patient and family voice into quality efforts; and 4) Informing policies that support optimal health and development for all children and youth. Currently, all of OPIP’s efforts include a focus on improving quality of care and building health and resilience for publicly insured children and for children who are furthest from opportunity. We focus on key aspects of health that can predict a child’s functioning and resilience. Furthermore, we are leading a number of efforts focused on the health care system’s role in addressing and positively contributing to the child social determinants of health. With the innovative public health work happening in Oregon, Portland is a wonderful place to explore a future in public health.
Member Duties : The VISTA will lead four efforts that focus on engaging key stakeholders and leveraging quality measurement or improvement efforts to improve care to include: 1)Develop communication and engagement materials for health care organizations who provide care for publicly insured children and/or Early Learning Hubs. 2)Assist with the facilitation of a statewide learning community of health care organizations responsible for publicly insured children. 3)Lead tracking and data collection with primary care providers focused on identifying young children at risk for not being ready or kindergarten, which is a social determinant given the impact of school success on health and life outcomes. 4)Develop a summary of system and community-level efforts conducted by OPIP over the last decade. Preferred qualifications include strong data analytic and communication skills. Applied quality measurement of improvement experience is desired but not required.
