Description: Washington County Department of Public Health and Environment has a paid 67 day or 270 hour temporary worker opening available in order to assist department staff with a Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) Healthy Eating in the Community and Breastfeeding Support strategies.
Qualifications/Desirables for Candidate:
The ideal candidate would be a recent undergraduate or current Master’s student in; public health, nutrition, health education, community health, or health promotion. Knowledge or experience with communities in the Washington County or east metro region is desirable. Knowledge of healthy eating promotion practices, supporting breastfeeding, populations with low incomes, farmers markets, public relations are desirable.
Candidate shall:
? Be reliable, trustworthy, accountable for work assigned;
? Ability to work with a flexible schedule;
? Demonstrate willingness to take direction and critique of work product from supervising staff;
? Communicate clearly and effectively when speaking and in written work or correspondence;
? Initiate work tasks assigned with minimal direction;
? Work independently and with a team;
? Have experience with setting goals, objectives and project management tasks;
? Demonstrate skills for doing outreach and collaboration with various partners;
? Abide by all County work policies and procedures;
? Provide their own reliable transportation; and
? Have an aptitude for using technology, business practices, promotion strategies and data collection.
Work Tasks:
? Work with SHIP staff and partner organizations such as farmers markets and food shelves to support SHIP projects
? Provide education and outreach to local community groups to encourage participation and use of SNAP-EBT acceptance at local Farmers Markets.
? Assist Washington County Public Health and Environment with developing resources for healthy eating education
? Support the Washington County Breastfeeding Coalition bi-monthly in-person meetings and complete agendas, minutes and record keeping.
? Communicate and promote community breastfeeding support groups in Washington County.
? Work with businesses to apply for Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace designations to meet the Minnesota Breastfeeding Coalition goal.
? Assist Washington County Breastfeeding Coalition with developing policies and procedures for checking out and using the breastfeeding tent; and provide assistance at community events where support or resources are needed.
? Assist with tracking and evaluation reports for the county and the MN Department of Health.
? Gain exposure to and participate in broader Washington County Public Health and Environment strategic conversations and activities.
Pay/Expenses:
Payment on an hourly rate of $15. Mileage reimbursement provided for all business related travel.

Time/Schedule:
Anticipated orientation date in March 2019 with regular hours starting May-September. Hours available on an average monthly rate until October 31, 2019.
