The incumbent in this position is responsible for completing state-level research, surveillance reporting, and evaluation for Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) content/site focus areas. The incumbent will also be working closely with obesity and tobacco evaluation research and program staff at Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) to plan, design, implement research and surveillance studies and report findings. Additional duties may include: research and grant proposal writing and grant reporting; evaluation and surveillance projects.
Bachelor’s degree in one of the behavioral or social sciences, public health, neuropsychology, epidemiology, health services research or closely-related field AND Three (3) years of professional experience designing, planning, organizing, implementing, directing or evaluating data-related projects including needs assessments, program evaluation, research studies using primary or secondary database linkage efforts, data analysis and interpretation, management information systems or data collection, and monitoring systems in health-related programs.
Bachelor’s degree in one of the behavioral or social sciences, public health, neuropsychology, epidemiology, health services research or closely-related field AND Five (5) years of related experience designing, planning, organizing, implementing, directing or evaluating data-related projects including needs assessments, program evaluation, research studies using primary or secondary database linkage efforts, data analysis and interpretation, management information systems or data collection, and monitoring systems in health-related programs.
A Master’s degree in one of the above areas will substitute for one year of professional experience; a PhD in one of the above areas will substitute for two years of professional experience.
Ability to conceive, organize and carry out research projects independently.
Strong quantitative analysis skills preferred.
Specialized knowledge of evaluation methods to assess policy, systems and environmental changes in the areas of healthy eating, tobacco and activity living preferred.
Specialized knowledge in epidemiology in the areas of obesity and tobacco preferred.
Skills in data visualization and reporting preferred.
Understanding of health equity and health disparities.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of federal, state, and local community
Experience with statistical software (e.g. SAS, STATA, SPSS or R).
Experience with data visualization software (e.g. Tableau, ArcGIS or others).
Experience leading diverse work teams to meet aggressive goals and timelines.
This position requires successful completion of the following:
Must successfully pass a background check.
Must possess a valid Class D driver’s license.
