Position Summary: The Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion within the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg
School of Public Health invites applications for a one- to two-year postdoctoral fellowship to work on
research studies related to food security, food systems, obesity, nutrition, policy, health equity, and public
health. The postdoctoral fellow will work directly with Sara Benjamin Neelon, PhD, JD, MPH, RD,
Associate Professor in the Department of Health, Behavior and Society and Director of the Lerner Center
for Public Health Promotion. Areas of focus for this postdoctoral fellow are noted above, but may be
flexible to include other areas of health promotion.
Duties and Responsibilities: The postdoctoral fellow will contribute to ongoing research studies and will lead
an independent research project, depending on research skills and interest. The postdoctoral fellow will help
draft and lead manuscripts for publication, present research findings at conferences, and engage in other
activities related to research dissemination. The goal of the postdoctoral fellowship program within the Lerner
Center is to help prepare future researchers for an independent academic or professional career in health
promotion or chronic disease prevention.
Qualifications: The postdoctoral fellow should have a doctoral degree in Nutrition, Health Behavior,
Maternal and Child Health, or a related field by the time of the appointment. Applicants with a JD will
also be considered. The postdoctoral fellow should have solid training in research methodology and
appropriate training to make scientific contributions to ongoing and future studies. Strong oral and
written communication skills and attention to detail are essential. The successful applicant will join a
team of two to three other postdoctoral fellows working in complementary areas of research with Dr.
