|Position Description:||The State of Connecticut, Department of Public Health (DPH), Infectious Diseases Section, is currently recruiting for an Epidemiologist 4. This Epidemiologist 4 position reports to the Director of Infectious Diseases, who is also the State Epidemiologist. The Epidemiologist 4 serves as the coordinator of the Syndromic Surveillance Program and as the Department’s subject matter expert on syndromic surveillance practice charged with enhancing syndromic surveillance capacity and practice in Connecticut.
|Qualifications:||PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Experience in public health practice at a s state or county department of health. • Experience in providing subject matter e expertise in syndromic surveillance p practice. • Experience in data management including: ( (1) experience analyzing large syndromic s surveillance or other healthcare datasets u using SAS or other similar software p packages, and (2) presenting these analyses o orally and in writing. • Experience with staff oversight and s supervision, including assigning and r reviewing the work of epidemiologists; p providing staff training; building and l leading teams; conducting performance e evaluations. • Experience in public health program administration and management including: (1) experience developing and managing federal cooperative agreements, budgets, contracts, and designing program evaluations, and (2) collaborating with internal and external partners and stakeholders including federal, regional, state, and local stakeholders in partnerships, coalitions, councils, and/or associations.
|Organization Description:||The CT DPH Infectious Diseases Section encompasses surveillance programs for emerging infections and more than 50 acute communicable diseases including conditions potentially associated with bioterrorism; outbreak detection and investigation; planning for the public health response to infectious disease emergencies, and programs for the prevention of perinatal infectious diseases, vaccine-preventable diseases, healthcare-associated infections, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis, sexually transmitted diseases and tuberculosis. A critical part of the section’s mission is to provide health education to the public, medical professionals and public health providers on prevention and management of disease transmission and emerging infections.
