Organization Summary: The Arc Minnesota is a non–profit, grassroots advocacy organization serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Intellectual and developmental disabilities include Down syndrome, autism, fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy and related conditions. The Arc helps people address issues such as early intervention, education, transition to adulthood, employment, housing, health care, guardianship, transportation, supports available to families/caregivers and on policy issues at local, state and national levels.
Position Summary: Assist with planning, preparation, and distribution of Arc information, services, and programs to participants in the Hmong community and with outreach and advocacy efforts. Make contacts, keep records, gather data and conduct evaluations to ensure The Arc is reaching all constituents and meeting their needs. Intern is expected to demonstrate competence within the areas of communication, problem solving, flexibility, job knowledge, time management, interpersonal relations, ethics, and leadership skills.
Time Commitment: This is a Hmong outreach and advocacy focused position for the 2019-2020 school year. Must be available 10-12 hours a week. Hours are Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm with evenings and weekends as schedule allows. An exit interview will also be conducted to gauge intern experience and to make recommendations for improvement. Includes a $1000 stipend payable in December and May or the utilization of work study if eligible.
