UNC-Chapel Hill is establishing the Institute on Rural Innovation (The Institute). The Institute will oversee the creation, implementation, and dissemination of novel training, research, and service experiences designed to advance the vitality and well-being of NC rural communities. The Director of Special Programs, reporting directly to the Associate Provost for Rural Initiatives and Director of the Institute, has primary responsibility for assisting the Associate Provost and Director in carrying out the academic direction and administrative support of the activities of the Institute. The Director of Special Programs will be a critical information, communications, and resource link between the Associate Provost, University partners, community stakeholders, consultants, and agencies and professional organizations at the state and national level. This position coordinates many complex functions across multiple schools that involve delegation of tasks to various administrators, faculty, staff and/or students throughout the University. The successful candidate must possess a thorough, in-depth knowledge of the participating programs, centers and faculty of each professional school.
|Minimum Education and Experience Requirements||
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
|Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities||
-Must be highly proficient in using MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint, Exchange Outlook Calendar, Email, lnternet, Pubmed, CINAHL, laser and color printers, copier, scanner, and the fax machine. Must be flexible and willing to learn new technology and software as needed to stay abreast of the latest technology available.
-Highly effective management skills including planning, organizing, delegating, coaching, and facilitating and coordinating program, staff, and student activities.
-Leadership and motivation skills to foster collaboration, creativity and engagement among stakeholders from varying backgrounds.
-Experience working at all phases of a projects lifespan including design, implementation and evaluation.
-Experience working on multidisciplinary teams.
-Experience working with community partners especially in rural settings.
-Experience working effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders.
Experience planning and coordinating professional events for more than 100 attendees.
-Familiarity with Connect Carolina and Epro.
