Employer: Book Harvest
Located in: Durham, North Carolina
Degree Required: Bachelors
Book Babies is a program of Book Harvest that provides books and literacy-rich home visits to Medicaid-eligible children and their families from birth. A family enrolls in the program for five years, from the time their child is born. Every year, trained home visitors provide 20 new, age-appropriate books to enrolled families. Home visitors also engage in literacy coaching during their visits. By the time a child graduates from Book Babies and starts kindergarten, s/he will own 100+ age-appropriate books and will, we believe, enter school more ready to learn.
The full-time Early Childhood Services Navigator will be an integral member of the Book Babies team and will develop and oversee seamless transitions for families through the early years of their child’s life including preschool, Pre-K, kindergarten, and other early elementary school transitions. Serving as a knowledgeable resource on child care and school options available in Durham County, this team member will support families in applying for child care services, Durham Public Schools’ special education services, public pre-kindergarten and kindergarten programs, as well as navigating the early years of elementary school. This is a new position and this team member will report to the Book Babies Team Leader.
