The Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, College of Public Health at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professorship in the biostatistics concentration. The Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology provides a dynamic and interactive environment, with a commitment to teaching and research excellence. ETSU is a Doctoral Research Intensive University and home to approximately 15,000 students. Faculty members benefit from collaborative and collegial interactions across the Academic Health Sciences Center that includes ETSU Health and the Colleges of Clinical and Rehabilitative Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Public Health.
Candidates should have a doctoral degree in biostatistics or a related field. Applicants with collaborative experience with researchers in public health are highly encouraged to apply. Experience in research areas currently ongoing in the College are important. The successful candidate is expected to teach applied analytic methods in public health, increase student-learning opportunities in statistical software applications to public health data, and assist with the development of contemporary online graduate certificates/programs in public health data analytics. Candidates for Assistant Professor tenure-track should have demonstrated potential to achieve a strong record of scholarship, extramural funding and excellence in teaching.
The Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology is housed in a CEPH-accredited school of public health (https://www.,etsu.edu/cph). Department faculty teach undergraduate and graduate online and on ground campus courses. The Department participates in the MPH and DrPH degree programs. Department faculty research includes life course approach to obesity and non-communicable diseases, oral health, metabolic syndrome and associated risk factors, environmental epidemiology, health disparities and global health, subsample size determination methods, and early-life exposures and growth, development and health.
ETSU is located in Johnson City, TN. The Johnson City metropolitan area is an economic and healthcare hub recognized as one of the best places to live in the US. Surrounded by national forests, the area is prized for outdoor activities, parks, golf courses, hiking trails and lakes. Demonstrated, or potential for, excellence in teaching, including online and in-class biostatistics, and data analytics for public health data courses.
