The Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health (MEZCOPH) at the University of Arizona (UA) invites applicants for a full/associate level faculty position with tenure in the Environmental Health Sciences program in the Department of Community, Environment, and Policy. We are seeking an independent investigator who has established expertise in environmental health research, environmental epidemiology, and/or exposure science – particularly including the following areas: health equity, environmental justice, one health, climate-associated disease, exposomics, human toxicology, arid environments, environmental microbiology, and the built environment. The ideal candidate should have demonstrated the ability to lead and contribute to interdisciplinary environmental health research teams.
The Department of Community, Environment and Policy is at the nexus between environmental science and health research – two of six strategic research areas at UA. This provides an unparalleled opportunity for an environmental health scholar at one of the leading universities in the US for environmental science research. At the center of our reputation is the Institute for the Environment which fosters and facilitates cross-campus, community, state, national, and worldwide collaborations that resolve environmental challenges. The Institute includes more than 300 affiliated faculty, including those in public health, who are internationally recognized for their environmental research and who reflect the UA’s commitment to interdisciplinary study. UA has three centers with funding from the National Institutes of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), including the Southwest Environmental Health Sciences Center (P30), the Superfund Research Program (P42), and the Center for Indigenous and Environmental Health Research (P50). The Department also houses the Environmental, Exposure Science and Risk Assessment Center (ESRAC).
As evidence of the UA’s interdisciplinary culture, faculty in the Department regularly collaborate with other Departments (Pharmacology and Toxicology, Biosystems Engineering, Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Civil and Architectural Engineering and Mechanics, Mining and Geological Engineering, Mexican American Studies, Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Promotion, and Soil, Water, and Environmental Science), Colleges and Schools (Engineering, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Geography and Development, Natural Resources, Microbiology, Medicine, Pharmacy, and Eller College of Management), Centers (Water Research and Resource Center, Arizona Cancer Center, Asthma and Airway Disease Research Center, UA Center for the Elimination of Border Health Disparities, Global Health Institute), and others throughout Arizona’s public University system.
The Department has two programs: (1) Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) and (2) Public Health Policy and Management (PHPM). Within the EHS Program, we offer an MPH degree in Environmental and Occupational Health and an MS and PhD degree in Environmental Health Sciences. We also offer an environmental and occupational health track within the undergraduate Public Health major and an accelerated BS/MPH joint degree. One of the Department’s truly unique opportunities is the active partnerships in regional, multi-disciplinary, community-based research projects addressing health issues relative to US-Mexico border communities and indigenous populations. Salary is commensurate with faculty rank and experience.
