|This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. Health Care for All Oregon (HCAO) is a statewide coalition of over 120 members and endorsing organizations and 33,000 individuals working to achieve a comprehensive, equitable, publicly funded, and high-quality health care system to serve all Oregon residents. Through grassroots activism, and community education programs, HCAO aims to help folks gain access to the care they want and need using existing programs & volunteers, and advocating through education for a future where there is universal health care for all in Oregon. You will be a part of this energetic organization’s program team and will be creating new capacity to meet our mission. Our offices are located in Portland, Oregon’s Rockwood neighborhood. Our city sits on the Columbia and Willamette rivers, in the shadow of snow-capped Mount Hood. It’s known for its parks, bridges and bicycle paths, as well as for its eco-friendliness and its microbreweries and coffeehouses. Iconic Washington Park encompasses sites from the formal Japanese Garden to Oregon Zoo and its railway. The city hosts thriving art, theater and music scenes. |Member Duties : The VISTA member will use their interest in healthcare access and community programs to engage economically disadvantaged individuals and create strategies that will increase access to care. This VISTA will: -Research and catalogue barriers to healthcare access -Build and maintain a database for healthcare access programs and regional services available to economically disadvantaged communities -Develop and present a Volunteer Access to Care Navigator training -Create and implement data gathering tools to receive input from low income healthcare recipients -Create a catalogue of key partners to be used by HCAO Chapters for the benefit of low-income communities The ideal candidate will have experience with and interest in: -Working in a health, public health or social services -Strategies that transition communities out of poverty -Excellent verbal, written and computer literacy skills -Creating and maintaining relationships with diverse partners|
